I am going to send several emails in the near future, just because it is
easier for me to send them as I complete each topic. I hope that won't
disturb your inboxes too much
Our First Friday event for October is a Portrait in Oils by Emil Nikolla
– whom we are fortunate to have as one of our members.
Emil was born in Berat, Albania in 1971. He joined a local Art School at
the age of 10, finishing his art studies at Athens Fine Arts University
in Greece. Since 2003 he has been living and working in London, UK. He
likes to capture the essence of the subject's nature, which he does by
chatting to the sitter. His demonstrations were popular with our members
and the general public at our exhibition in The Glades. His other claim
to fame is as a semi-finalist on Sky Portrait Artist of the Year 2019.
You can see examples of his work at https://www.emilnikollaartist.com/ -
but don't just look at his portraits. I like the abstracts in particular.
Friday 4th October 2019, 7.30 pm for 8 pm at Ripley Art Centre
YOUR HELP PLEASE
We shall need some help in the kitchen this Friday as one of our "Tea
ladies" will be away. They are of course not "Tea ladies" really but
ordinary members of BAS and I have been worried for some time that the
work falls unevenly on a few people. As well as helping this week, it
would be great if more people volunteered regularly so that we can
rotate a bit. There is no need to restrict this to the ladies either. I
am trying not to ask the committee members who already do so much. We
shall have an organiser on hand to - well, organise!
NEW BAS RULE - NO GRUMBLING
Whilst we talk of the committee - I know that some members are unhappy
that some of the committee do not attend the demonstrations. Our
ordinary members are not all expected to attend every one of our
functions so it would be a bit harsh to expect it of the committee. I am
just pleased that we manage to fill the posts with people who have the
competence and enthusiasm to do the job. Until you have tried it, you
don't realise how hard it is to run an art society or something similar.
All of them have other things in life to get on with too. There is no
reward for serving on the committee and I think members get a lot for
their membership fee. It's quite clear that we muddle some things up -
often your chairman's fault - but we do our best. We can always do with
more help, so if something is not right for you, please offer to pitch in!
