Dear Members,
*A reminder for this Friday - Art Matters - "Old Masters" **Online
Friday 17th February 7pm - 8pm*
Let the old masters be an inspiration for our Art Matters this Friday.
Be it your own modern day interpretation of a "Grand" portrait following
the style of Joshua Reynolds or the Triptych presentation of your
favourite scene.
Join us for our Art Matters discussion whether you have prepared a
masterpiece or not! Zoom details below.
*From Deborah ...

"I thought we would go with Art Works inspired by two very different
figure based Old Master paintings
Option 1 Portrait of Omai - I guess we are likely to hear more about
this painting as the NPG tries to raise the funds to keep him in the
country -
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Joshua_Reynolds_-_Portrait_of_Omai.jpg
Or Option 2 The Merode Altarpiece. Discovered in a book about the
history and meaning of Triptychs
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%A9rode_Altarpiece#/media/File:Annunciation_Triptych_(Merode_Altarpiece)_MET_DP273206.jpg
So we challenge you to create an art work inspired by the paintings -
It could be a study of one of the figures? A modern reinterpretation? A
collage? Triptychs are fun to make and can be as simple as card and
masking tape or even folded card.
As usual you are very welcome to come along on the night even if you
haven't done your homework! But I hope that you will feel inspired to
try something out…"

*Bluebell Festival*
We are very pleased to say that we have been given the opportunity to
take part in the Riverhill Bluebell festival organised by Diana
McKinnon. We will take one of the stalls alongside other Artists and
Makers so this would be a very limited space but provides a fabulous
opportunity for BAS to exhibit within a popular, long standing event and
I have seen some lovey Bluebell themed paintings over the years.
If you would like to be considered to take part or have any questions
can you please email Deborah ASAP on
exhibitions at bromleyartsociety.org.uk so that I can plan this.
Details
* Work must be of Bluebells to be consistent with the theme
* 2 dimensional only due to public liability considerations
* Opportunity to sell cards
* Cost maximum of £10 each work
* Dates 19/4/23-1/5/23 closed 24th and 25th May
* Deborah will communicate dates for delivery and collection of work
probably shortly before 18/4 and after 1/5
* Members only
* Stewarding not required though if you are able to do some/help with
hanging and taking down also please let me know.
* Location and event link is here

*The Warren, Hayes*
In a new venture for us we have taken a stall at a Craft fair on 2nd
July and 3rd December at the Warren in Hayes. The location has a number
of public events. We are also planning to stage a one day exhibition of
member’s art works in a room close to the stalls. This will provide more
space to allow us to exhibit more works to a new audience. Planning for
this is at an earlier stage but Deborah would very much be interested to
hear from anyone who would like to take part/be able to help. Thanks to
Aferdita for leading the search for new locations.
*Do you know of other possible exhibition venues?*
There are some other exhibition options being explored but nothing
definite to communicate yet. But if you know of any likely venues or
events please share them with us.
And finally our exhibition screens are available to hire by anyone
planning an exhibition of their own. They are proving very popular this
year so if you are interested please make contact.
Kind Regards,
Deborah & Paul
