This is my final email newsletter as your Chairman and tomorrow will be
my final AGM in that role. I am very grateful that my friend and
colleague Zsuzsanna will be our demonstrator for the occasion. In
typical Zsuzsanna fashion, her demonstration is going to be called
“Canvas and Kitchen Sink”. We can look forward to an entertaining and
unorthodox session on mark making and much more.

AGMs are important in that your Committee reports to the membership on
past activities and lays out plans for the future, as well as being the
opportunity for elections. Important, but often a bit dull frankly! I
hope some of the news we shall present will be of interest after a tough
year, but otherwise lets keep to time and give Zsuzsanna full reign.

I have enjoyed being Chairman, and I thank the society for the
opportunity to serve. It has been a busy year for me for other reasons
and I could not have done it without the very able and active support of
the committee. I shall say more about this tomorrow, but if you cannot
attend the AGM let me at least record my gratitude for the skills and
devotion shown by the committee.

We have only one candidate for Chair at present. Paul Stringfellow has
been a tireless workhorse and smooth diplomat as a committee member, and
has carried multiple roles. If elected, I am sure he will be a great
success as Chair, with your support.

The committee is getting too small to continue much longer without
additional help. I am grateful to Mary Sterling who has agreed to join,
subject to your vote, but we still need more people to ensure the
Society’s future. In particular we shall need to find a new Hon Sec over
the coming year. Committees need fresh people with new ideas from time
to time and you can help shape the Society as you wish it. It does
require some time and commitment, but it is also fun and rewarding. I
hope a few more of you will volunteer. It will be the Society’s 75th
anniversary this year – something for the next Chair and committee to
celebrate, but I hope it will not be the Society’s final year too.

Some people have yet to renew their membership. Please do so soon. We do
have plans as the world opens up again, some of which will be for
members only. So pay up and watch this space! We are still struggling
with fixed costs and reduced income to some extent, so if you can spare
a little extra beyond the minimum membership it would be very helpful.
In particular we need to build up a reserve to repair and replace our
display screens.

And that’s me done. I hope to see many of you online tomorrow, and I
really look forward to the opportunity later in the year to meet again
in person.

With best wishes
