In a change from our advertised programme, our First Friday
demonstration for July will be given by Nishad Karim, one of our
members. I am grateful to him for filling in at short notice. The topic
fits in nicely with our upcoming exhibition theme for the Beckenham
Place Park exhibition. Nishad will be painting quite a large water
colour and talking about his approach and methods as well as technique.
He is an art teacher by profession and in addition has a youtube channel
of his own, so we expect a slick and polished demonstration - No
pressure Nishad!
Nishad pointed to this by way of biography
https://www.nishadkarim.co.uk/nishadkarimart
but https://www.nishadkarim.co.uk/ looks interesting too and the
galleries show paintings from both his native Trinidad and Tobago and
from parts of his adopted South London area.
The Zoom details are at the end of this email.

In other news, you may recall my passion for the open source and free
digital art programs Inkscape and Gimp
Inkscape (https://inkscape.org/) has just released its first series of
official releases as the version 1.1, after making its reputation in
"pre-release" versions for the last 18 years. Whatever the oddities of
the numbering this release has many new features that I have not studied
in detail yet. Inkscape is a vector drawing program, whose commercial
counterpart is Adobe Illustrator.
Gimp - a bitmap editor and therefore rival to Adobe Photoshop - has a
more conventional numbering scheme for its releases. It is clearly
limbering up for a major release at 3.0 soon. Download the current
version or trials of the new version at https://www.gimp.org/
Have a look at what the experts can do with them, eg at
https://fineartamerica.com/art/inkscape
https://pixels.com/shop/canvas+prints/gimp
and many other sites
