Hi All

Well here we are again so I thought it was time to share a few more links of interest for the coming weeks. More to follow so if you have any suggestions just let me know.

But first of all don't forget Colin’s demo later (Friday 6th). You should have received the zoom details from Adrian (webmaster at bromleyartsociety.org.uk <mailto:webmaster at bromleyartsociety.org.uk>) on Tuesday. If you can’t see it it may be hiding in the Bulk mail or even Spam folders so might be worth searching for it. Many of you will have seen Colin’s portraits and abstracts at our exhibitions so should be well worth watching. Adrian will open the call at 6.45 so please join us to say hello before the demo starts at 7pm.

Painting Demos

As we all know colour mixing is a key skill. Thanks to Richard Waldron who has suggested the links below

Richard recommends that Cadmium Red, Burnt Umber, Yellow Ochre and Zinc White or sometimes Titanium White, plus an occasional hint of Prussian Blue in shadows. But also says that Van Gogh would disagree and use raw colours, as would the pointillists like Seurat. I would go with that but probably add black rather than Prussian Blue - being of the general opinion that Prussian Blue is the work of the devil. Are there any other favoured recipes out there?

For the Landscape Artists among us you may find this demo from Mo Teeuw interesting. I haven’t had a chance to watch this yet but I saw her doing a demonstation at a Plein Air event some years ago and found it interesting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AFntqsnZJw&feature=youtu.be <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AFntqsnZJw&feature=youtu.be>

Exhibitions

Dont forget that exhibitions are still available online, such as the Summer Exhibition, https://www.royalacademy.org.uk/article/video-virtual-tour-summer-exhibition-2020 <https://www.royalacademy.org.uk/article/video-virtual-tour-summer-exhibition-2020> there is also the ability to look at individual works
The Mall Gallery is a also good for looking at the Art that would have been on show particularly with the New English Art Club and Royal Institute of Oil Painters coming up https://www.mallgalleries.org.uk/whats-on/exhibitions <https://www.mallgalleries.org.uk/whats-on/exhibitions>

Online Art opportuinites

The Jacksons Blog continues to put out good posts including this one that has updated the links to courses that are available. I recently did a 3 hour practical zoom workshop with an Artist whose work I had seen at the Mall Gallery and found that it worked very well and I ended up with some new techniques to use. I did admire the confidence of some of the other participants who were painting in their dining rooms though - there was a lot of flicking paint around. https://www.jacksonsart.com/blog/2020/11/03/creating-together-recommended-online-art-classes-and-activities/ <https://www.jacksonsart.com/blog/2020/11/03/creating-together-recommended-online-art-classes-and-activities/>

Local Libraries

And as a bit of a public service announcement I am sure a lot of people have local library cards. I have had one a couple of years and taken out a book twice - but the online offering is fabulous. Though the Art Book options aren’t great there is Libby or Overdrive for online and audio books, PressReader for free newspapers and magazines and RBdigital for magazines and films and so on. The ability to see what US newspapers are saying about the election has of course been a major time waster this week but there are variety of Art and Craft magazines on offer e.g. International Artist on PressReader and Artists and Illustrators on Overdrive. So well worth a look. I use Lewisham Library but as far as I can see Bromley has the same things in its e-books section.

and Something off the wall…

In fact literally, This was shared by a friend on facebook, you may already have seen it. All I can say is why does this never happen when I am waiting in an airport? https://skullmapping.com/project/rubens-cupid/ <https://skullmapping.com/project/rubens-cupid/>. The website has some other examples too.

Happy Painting! Drawing, sculpting ….

Deborah
