*Dear Members and friends of the society,*
*Friday's talk & demonstration.*
This Friday, at a premium, but at no cost to members, we have Curtis
Tappenden, artist, performer, poet, writer and educator...., returning
to give us a another lively entertaining evening. You may remember
Curtis from last year when he gave us a engaging evening about his
relationship with art and the circus.
Don't miss this year as Curtis returns to give us another entertaining
and informative talk about "My Life as an Artist" followed by a short
demonstration of his techniques during the second half.
Doors open in the Function room at the Daylight Inn at 7pm on Friday 7th
June and the evening will end around 9.30pm with a break in between.
Please be at your seats with your refreshments by 7.30pm to minimise
disruption during the evening. The evening will be hosted by John as I
will be away .
*Future Events - for you!
*
As members you are aware that our society exists to bring local artists
together in a range of activities where we can support each other as
artists. It is run by members participating and contributing for all our
members.
As a reminder of some of our activities please visit our webpage which
gives further details of our 2024 programme including the forthcoming
*exhibition at St George's* *Bickley*. This will be updated with further
details as we are able to announce them.
https://www.bromleyartsociety.org.uk/programme-2024/
I am currently actively seeing if we can have the Glades again this year
for an exhibition and will keep you informed. If you know of similar
venues and able to follow up on them for the society please let me know.
Unfortunately I can not follow up on all potential venues myself.
*November and Christmas December Daylight Inn events - you help decide.
*
You will notice that both our November and Christmas December, Daylight
Inn events are yet to be determined. We would like to turn these dates
over to our members to help decide. If you have a suggestion for these
dates and are willing to help make it happen then please let us know.
*Workshop Opportunities - please let me know
*
Depending on demand I intend to hold one or two Workshops at St George's
Church Hall, Bickley. We will hire a professional local artist for the
day to conduct a workshop to meet fellow artists and develop your
skills. These are likely to be held during August as a one day event
from 10:30am - 3:30pm on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday depending on
which day is more popular. The price charged will reflect the number of
people and the cost of hosting the event. I would like to think the cost
will be less than £30 per person for the day.
If you are interested please contact me on
membership at bromleyartsociety.org.uk and provide me with
1. Your preference to which day, Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.
2. An idea of what subjects you would prefer for the workshop ie
Watercolour, Acrylic, Oils, people, landscapes, abstracts etc....
If I have enough people this will be fantastic day for members and
friends in a spacious venue with plenty of parking and refreshment
facilities.
*Dear Bromley Art Society ...........................*
As a footnote from time to time I have people contacting the society
with a range of opportunities. Unfortunately I am unable to follow up on
all of these personally but I would like to share them with you to see
if any members are interested. If you are please contact them directly....
Kind Regards,
Paul
*Everyone Matters.....*
"Dear Bromley Art Society,
I run a small charity Everyone Matters and we're organising a day of
music and art on Friday 21 June at St Mark's Church, Bromley South as
part of the London Festival of Architecture 2024. I have three separate
flyers for your information, and you can find us on the LFA24 website as
part of this year's focus on Bromley.
I don't yet seem to have hit the right group of adults who'd be keen to
take part in our workshop afternoon led by aerosol artist David
Earthrowl. I was hoping that a bit of alternative "graffiti" art would
catch people's imagination and seem a fun way to spend a few hours, but
so far it's not attracted participants. Would you have any advice for me
on groups I could approach who'd enjoy this opportunity? We're charging
a modest £10 to take part, and we are providing all the materials.
If you were interested to see David in action you might like to watch
our "Summer Sprayscape" video, one of a series of "Music Links" sent to
care homes during lockdown and now freely available on YouTube:
https://youtu.be/LPNKbtfSHMw
If you have a moment to get back to me I'd be very grateful for your
thoughts,
best wishes,
Margaret "

*Mural commission?*
"Dear Bromley Art Society,
I hope this email finds you well. My name is Eider Gutierrez , and I am
reaching out on behalf of Riverside School, St Paul’s Cray. We are
interested in commissioning a mural for our school, and we believe that
your society’s expertise could be invaluable in connecting us with
talented local artists.
Project Details:
* *Location:* Outdoors at Riverside
* *Dimensions:* Approximately 8 meters (width) by 3 meters (height)
* *Theme:* We envision a combination of an abstract background with
text incorporated into the design.
We are passionate about creating an inspiring and visually engaging
mural that reflects the unique spirit of our school community. The mural
will serve as a focal point for our students, staff, and visitors, and
we hope it will contribute to a positive and inclusive environment.
Could you please let us know if there are any artists within your
network who specialize in large-scale outdoor murals? We would greatly
appreciate any recommendations or introductions.
Kind regards,
Eider Gutierrez" *Contact *eider.gutierrez at riverside.bromley.sch.uk "
*Scotts Park Primary School.*
"Dear Bromley Art Society,
How are you? I am the chair of the parents association which is a
charity supporting Scotts Park Primary School. We are hosting an art
competition for our children, to raise money to support parents and
children who are struggling. The theme of the competition is 'happy
minds' - the children will be given an a4 canvas and will create a
picture of whatever makes their minds happy. This theme is in keeping
with our current mental health programme at school - 'happy minds' - and
is a way to encourage good mental health within our children and community.
I noticed that the Glades display art in the upper mall of the glades
next to Super Dry. I was wondering if you had any contacts or
association with this, and might be able to point me in the right
direction to speak to someone, as I was wondering if the Glades might
consider displaying some of the entrants and winners of our competition?
The children are up to 11 years of age, and would absolutely love to
have their work displayed in the Glades, it would be such a treat for
them and would really celebrate their work, the importance of mental
health, and support our charity in helping families in need.
We are hosting the display of the children's work on 14th June at 3.30pm
at Scotts Park Primary in BR1 - would you like to come along? We have
a lovely local artist, Marina Nasso-Beard to judge the competition, but
it would be lovely to have someone from the Bromley Art Society to come
along and see the work, to open the viewing, or even to be another judge
if you were willing? We would be happy to promote your classes and
society also, if you would like us to?
I would love to chat to you about this either on the phone or in
person, email here anytime,
Thanks so much and I look forward to hearing from you.
