Dear Members

*Art Matters - Favourite Art Materials*

You are invited to join our friendly online Art Matter's discussion
tonight at 7pm. We shared our favourite tools and materials a while back
and picked up lots of great tips for brushes, paper and other materials.
Join us on Zoom and share or discover others "material secrets". We can
also catch up and suggest themes for future meetings including ideas for
our monthly meetings at our new venue at the Daylight Inn.

*Retrospective Exhibition of a selection of Malcolm Tait's Artwork. -
Saturday 8th October, Old Church School, Hayes, BR2 7BA, 10:30am - 4.30pm.
*

Plans are well in place for the exhibition and sale of Malcolm's
artwork.  This is part of his local church St Mary the Virgin - Hayes,
Kent which Malcolm regularly attended and gave his strong support to.
They have very kindly allowed us to use this venue and a much reduced cost.

As a reminder,Malcolm was a merchant seaman so ships and nautical themes
was the inspiration of much, but not all, of his artwork. All of the
artwork will be sold at greatly reduced prices. He keenly supported the
RLNI and it is for this reason that his family have requested that all
sale proceeds are donated equally to the RLNI and Bromley Art Society.

We need help please in setting up the screens and artwork around 9am and
then taking them back down again at 4:30pm. We would also need some kind
volunteers to steward and for a few hours during the day or putting a
few flyers advertising the event in your local area. If you are able
please contact me at Paul Stringfellow
<membership at bromleyartsociety.org.uk> Please come along and support the
RLNI, Bromley Art Society and your fellow members.

*Artist In Residence Opportunity.*

I recently gave details of an opportunity to give workshops to residents
at a new KYN Care home being set up in Bickley.  I have been contacted
again as they would like to explore the opportunity of having an "Artist
in residence" based in their home. Please find details below from Lucy...

"The care home will be an 86-bedroom site, however when we open, we
envisage we will only have about 8-12 residents initially, increasing in
occupancy over time.

As such, we thought that one of the rooms within the home could be
utilised by an artist as a studio for them to carry out the production
of artwork, for a several month period, before it is required by a resident.

We would look to cover materials that the artist might need to create
their art, at a reasonable cost and would ask in return that the artist
involves any residents who wish to take part within their creation of
art – whether that is residents being the focus of the work as a subject
matter, being involved in helping to create work themselves, utilising
residents in workshops, and/or otherwise. We would not expect to keep
the artwork in the home, unless of course the artist wanted us to do so,
but would be very happy for the artist to sell their artworks on
afterwards or during their residency with us.

We are very open to the type of art created - painting, sculpture,
dance, music, textiles, any form – we know that art encompasses a broad
range. We would like to have a series of artists in residents, taking
occupancy in the studio over an 18month period.

There are a number of considerations that need exploring and the idea
needs much further fleshing out, but we envisage that it could be
beneficial both to residents and hopefully to artists too."

Kind regards,

Paul.
