Further to Paul’s newsletter this morning …

We have a bit of a theme going to highlight the COP meeting. First we
have an “Art matters” on Endangered Species this Friday, then later an
exhibition and competition “One Step Greener” . Handing in has started
and continues till the end of October. We have not stipulated that you
should use recycled materials, but that was the inspiration for the
event. Taking that a bit further, you might be interested in some
recycled papers from SeaWhite (www.seawhite.co.uk
<http://www.seawhite.co.uk/>). The most interesting to me is the
CupCycling paper made for them by www.jamescropper.com
<http://www.jamescropper.com/> – literally from coffee cups. I have
tried the sketchbook and can report that it takes pencil marks well and
Conte pastel less well – but still very early days. There are also large
sheets.

Seawhite also have “Crush” grey and brown eco papers made from corn
cobs. Not had time to try them yet, but they are said to be acid free so
might be useful for more than practice.

There must be other similar products elsewhere to find!

--------------------

Some of us manned a stall at a “Bromley Cultural Event” last weekend,
along with several other groups in art, dance, music, film, theatre and
so on. Bromley has a lot to offer but it is disjointed. This event was
organised by InnerCircle Consulting on behalf of the Council as part of
a bid to help get more of a cultural presence. We need to win hearts and
minds at the Council and every where else. Amongst other things, we need
more of a presence in Central Bromley where there is passing footfall. I
don’t think this detracts from Ripley which suits more deliberate
events. It would also be great to see some sort of Bromley Festival in
the summer. So please help us raise the profile of these ideas with
friends, neighbours and councillors etc.

Amongst other friends we met at the cultural day were the U3A and “The
Art Society, Bromley”. We have overlapping interests with both. The
latter is the new name for the local branch of what used to be called
NADFAS. www.theartssocietybromley.org.uk
<http://www.theartssocietybromley.org.uk/>. In short, their interests
are in art appreciation, whereas ours are in art creation. We shall be
carrying news of their lectures soon – and the first one is free if you
wish to try them out.

We had some interest from potential new members too, at the cultural
event, which we welcome. A lot of children, and their parents, expressed
an interest in a children's’ art club, but we don’t have the resources
to run it. If any of you are interested in running something like that,
please let us know!

and in closing

Christine Richards, our erstwhile Hon Sec (and much else) is an
imaginative artist as we know. She is also a great musician. She is
holding a “Pianothon” this coming weekend in aid of the Royal Marsden
and in memory of a young relative. Please consider supporting her. Her
Just Giving page is at
https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/CHRISTINE-RICHARDS16. There is a
lovely picture of her there too. She is very modest about it all, but I
am amazed at what she is attempting because she broke her arm earlier
this year.
