Art Matters - In the City 12/02/2020.

Last Friday's talk was led by Deborah and Paul.

Adrian sent his apologies as he was feeling unwell. All who attended
wished him well and a speedy recovery.

It was good to see the meeting well attended again with many fellow
artists contributing a wealth of different approaches and techniques.
Amongst them were

  * Beautiful cylindrical panoramas of London's Scenes lit up with tea
    lights from Diana
  * An view of the Shard and from an extraordinary ground up view from
Joyce who went out of her comfort zone with painting London's building.
  * An atmospheric London night scene and an abstract from Colin.
  * An abstract of circles containing a hint of London's iconic images
    from Elena
  * An imaginary town view from Deborah's father and a rare watercolour
    from Deborah herself.
  * Paul’s digital watercolour of a lone homeless gentleman sitting on a
    damp cold London Bridge
  * and much more. It was fantastic having such a variety of approaches.

Digital art cropped up as a talking point at various moments during the
discussions. Some where already familiar with the use of digital
techniques and David Hockney's use of an Ipad was mentioned by way of
example. We heard that some Art Schools were asking students to produce
a digital drawing as part of the entry process as it allows tutors to
see the way the student draws.

I was asked which software I use for my digital watercolour's which is
Rebelle 4. This originally focused on mimicking the watercolour
experience but has just recently expanded to include oils.

For those who have a more recent iPad or iPhone the Notes App that comes
as standard (looks like a piece of lined paper with a yellow top) can
now be used to draw - you can use your finger though a cheap stylus
(e.g. 50p in pound stretcher)is a good investment and a lot cheaper than
an Apple Pencil!

> There are a wealth of other digital painting software for all
> platforms some of which are based on the Adobe model.
>
> Of note some excellent free open source digital software for the
> artist which are available across Windows, OS and Linux are :

> Adrian, in fact did a introductory demo early last year before
> lockdown during our live Three Corners event which mentioned some of
> the above software and produced an excellent hand out which I will aim

> There was a lot of interest at the meeting in the materials that
> people had used for their entries so next weeks  Art Matters is
> entitled "My Top Materials” and opportunity for everyone to share
> their favourite materials or methods. The aim is to share something to
> inspire your fellow Artists to try it out. The meeting will be at 7pm
> on zoom as usual but will not include any homework to enable people to
> put their finishing touches on their "Ring out the old, ring in the
> new" painting competition before submitting them on the closing day
> which is next Friday 19th Feb.
