Such a lot to tell you ....
Our 'First Friday' meeting for November, and the last demonstration of
the year, will be by Stephen Cheeseman on Sport. He offered us a choice
of media, and by popular demand of the committee, we have chosen oil
pastel. We don't see that very often. Stephen's website is at
https://www.stephencheeseman.com/gallery.html where you will see
cyclists and horses. I never quite trusted the brakes on a horse and
would prefer cyclists. We are sure to have a lively demonstration
whichever he chooses.
I hope you will join us.
Friday 1st November, 7.30 pm for 8.00 pm at Ripley.
24 Sundridge Avenue, Bromley BR1 2PX
------------------------------
It won't be our last 'First Friday' meeting though. The December event
will be on Friday 6th December, also at Ripley. It will consist of an
art themed quiz, with prizes, and our famous Christmas feast.
Maggie will be selling CHRISTMAS PARTY TICKETS AND MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS
at the November meeting as well as other occasions. Party £10,
Membership £35 or both together for the bargain price of £45. There is a
student membership rate of £20. Whilst we are doing prices, guest
membership for individual First Friday meetings in the new year will be
£5 on the door.
------------------------------
We have a good programme drawn up for next year, which will be published
shortly. I just want to outline some changes in the first few for now.
There will not be a January meeting. The meeting on Friday 7th Feb 2020
will be a "four corners" exhibition. Those who have been members for
some years will recall those with fondness - basically four small
demonstrations, mainly by members. We shall also be holding an "ART
JUMBLE SALE". We hope you will donate all your unwanted Christmas art
gifts and all those treasures hoarded in your loft, and buy some more
from someone else! The money raised will go towards the repair and
eventual replacement of our screens. We have moved our AGM to the March
meeting on Friday 6th March 2020, because the end of January is too busy
a time for accounting and our treasurer.
------------------------------
On the subject of AGMs, we always welcome those who want to volunteer
for a committee post. I don't recall ever having to have an election for
one of the officers, but if even Boris wants one, we might too one day.
We can always find room for someone to join the committee.
We also hope to get a rota going for tea duties on the Fridays. Thank
you to those who helped last month.
------------------------------
The Wednesday meetings will close over Christmas. The last one before
the break will be on Wed 11th December 2019 and the first in the New
Year will be on Wednesday the 8th January 2020. All at Ripley. Julie
Collins is in charge, ably assisted by Maggie Ward.
------------------------------
Our website now has a list of links to members' own websites at
http://www.bromleyartsociety.org.uk/members/member-websites/
Thanks to Jules Pew for that.
We now want to build a list of members who offer teaching. Please
contact me or Jules <jules.pew at gmail.com> with a SHORT description of
what you teach, to whom, where and how you can be contacted. We expect
you to link to a website or social media page with the details rather
than put everything in the directory.
------------------------------
And finally we come to EXHIBITIONS. The society will be exhibiting at St
Andrews Church in Burnt Ash Lane over the weekend of 30th November - 1st
December 2019. Handing in and picking up will probably be on 29th Nov
and 2nd Dev respectively. Details to follow.
------------------------------
Our marathon runner, grandmother and potter, Jane Gibson, will be
exhibiting with the Kent Potters Open Exhibition, 1st November - 30th
November 2019 at the Sir Peter Blake Gallery, Dartford Library, DA1 1EU.
She particularly recommends the Special View ‘Meet the Potters’ on the
2nd NOVEMBER 12pm-2pm.
