Our "First Friday" meeting for March promises to be intriguing. Our
speaker and topic are billed as "Flowers in Acrylic - demonstration by
Lewis Hazelwood Horner". If you are thinking of something twee and
chocolate boxy - think again. Lewis's published works are intense
studies of people at work, some with a sense of love and humour, others
strike me as dark and brooding. All terrific but not a flower to be
seen. See for yourself at www.lhazelwoodhorner.co.uk or the many sites
on which he has won prizes. I think he is still in his 20s, so someone
to watch out for.
That's at 8pm, Friday 1st March, Ripley Arts Centre.

Of course you have to be a member to attend - Maggie will be there with
her membership kit for those last minute renewals. And do bring along
any friends who want to join us.

Art materials sale - Christine Mallion
Our late member and friend has left the contents of her studio to BAS to
sell for St Christopher's Hospice, for the benefit of both. Christine
was a prolific artist in acrylic, watercolour and pastel, pencil and ink
and well equipped with quality materials in all. I have LOADS of things
to sell and I cannot take them back home. I will set up as near 7pm as
possible on Friday, before the demonstration. Please bring cash and give
what you can afford for anything you want to buy. But also bring Carrier
bags etc. There are 12 largish boxes / bags which contain:
Books
Studio equipment, easels, cutting boards, work boxes
Acrylic paint
Watercolour paint
Pastels
Pencils various
Pen and ink
Paper for all the above in sizes from small to huge
Brushes
Frames
Mounts .....
It was passed to me by family who were clearly not artists, and I have
sorted it a bit. There are many hidden treasures though. Some are part
used, some brand new.
Don't forget. CASH and CARRIER BAGS. 7pm.

Technical notes - for those, like me, who enjoy the technology of art,
Golden have had a lovely website for some time at www.justpaint.org. Now
they have added a new element "Just Paint Experience" - sign up if you
are interested at www.justpaint.org/jpe-register. In the interests of
balance, I point out that WinsorNewton also have a superb website with
video tutorials, see www.winsornewton.com/uk/masterclass-collection.
There is a link to sign up at the bottom. MITRA is another good
resource, from the University of Delaware: www.artcons.udel.edu/mitra.
The forums are really useful and knowledgeable people respond to questions.
